Personal Responsibility
Code of Ethics
Before the start of our season the Athletic Department had you read and sign our Code of Ethics. This document covers all of our rules in the areas of Attendance, Eligibility, the Illinois High School Association by-laws, and the use or possession of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. Our program is bound to these rules and regulations and will honor and fully support any decision that the Athletic Department makes. There will be zero tolerance for the use of any drugs, alcohol, or tobacco.
Note: Any athlete who knowingly disregards or fails to act on a coach’s directive, or acts inappropriately (i.e. as stated in the Parent-Student Handbook) may be subject to suspension from the team. The penalty will be determined by the head coach after consultation with the Athletic Director and/or Athletic Board. The Athletic Board consists of the Principal and/or Associate Principal, Dean of Students, Athletic Director, and Athletic Coach.
Hazing/Bullying
D230 and the IHSA has zero tolerance for hazing and/or bullying, and thus, any behaviors that are interpreted as such will result in disciplinary action. According to the IHSA and D230, the policy reads as follows:
Soliciting, encouraging, aiding, or engaging in hazing is prohibited. "Hazing" means any intentional, knowing, or reckless act directed against a student for the purpose of being initiated into, affiliating with, holding office in, or maintaining membership in any organization, club, or athletic team whose members are or include other students. Bullying/verbal aggression includes that which would occur through social media and digital sources as well as inter-personal.
One or more of the following disciplinary actions:
1) Removal from the extra-curricular activity
2) Conference with parent/guardian
3) Referral to appropriate law enforcement agency
Students engaging in hazing that endangers the mental or physical health or safety of another may also be subject to:
1) Suspension for up to 10 days
2) Possible recommendation for expulsion
Academic Eligibility
The I.H.S.A. sets the standard for the eligibility of your daughter. Eligibility is set on a weekly basis and is checked by our Athletic Director on each Wednesday. It is at this time that eligibility is determined. The IHSA. rule states that your daughter must pass a minimum of twenty hours a week. That works out to passing at least 5 full credit courses.
